Warren suffers close loss at Girard

GIRARD-The Lady Dragons suffered a 5-3 loss at Girard on Thursday, leaving them with a record of 0-2 to start the 2014 season.
The host Yellow Jackets struck first 18 minutes into the game. Warren answered with eight minutes left in the half when Morgan Danielson took a cross from Amy Castagnino and blasted a shot past the Girard keeper to even the score at 1-1.
Danielson set up teammate Emma Kridler just before the half, and the Lady Dragons took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
Girard came out strong in the second half, but again it was Warren finding the scoreboard when Summer Rosendahl rebounded a header from Kathryn Lobdell that bounced off the crossbar.
“Those two worked very hard for that goal. It was well deserved,” said Warren coach Bob Domville. “We have to give Girard credit; they didn’t quit and kept the pressure on us. If we were able to hold out longer things might have looked better.”
Danielson nearly had a second goal late in the game after a ball made its way through the Girard keepers’ hands, but the referee ruled that it had not crossed the goal line.
Domville also praised the efforts of Katlyn Adams on defense.
Warren’s junior varsity team tied, 1-1. Emmeline Korb scored for the Lady Dragons while Aubrey Morley held down the defensive effort in goal.
On Tuesday, Warren fell to Central Tech in overtime 2-1. Lobdell scored on a pass from Danielson for the Lady Dragons, who host Strong Vincent on Saturday.
