Smoulder fires low round at invite

COUDERSPORT-Warren senior golfer Megan Smoulder had the low round of 83, and the Lady Dragons went on to finish second as a team at the 26th Annual Coudersport Girls Golf Invitational Thursday at the Coudersport Golf Club.

Rachel Wilson followed Smoulder with a round of 92 – good for fifth on the day – and Katelyn Hecei shot an 11th best 99.

“Finally, after four years of coaching a Lady Dragon stood up last and received the low round trophy at a big invitational,” said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. “Meg showed patience and skill by backing up some big holes with birdies. Also, it was a very strong performance by Rachel and Katie. Rachel’s fifth place finish was outstanding for a freshman and Katie’s second strong performance in an invitational guaranteed us second place.”

State College took first place in the team standings with a score of 265. Warren finished nearly 30 strokes ahead of the third place team, Smethport.

The Lady Dragons return to District 10 competition Tuesday at Fort LeBoeuf.
