Salvation Army Project Bundle-Up starts Monday

It’s that time of year to start thinking about winter coats, and the Salvation Army needs your help with Project Bundle-Up.

The Salvation Army will be accepting applications for children age 18 and under and senior citizens age 62 and over who need new winter outerwear from Monday, Sept. 8 through Friday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applicants can call the Salvation Army at 723-8950 to find out what paperwork they need to apply.

Individuals may receive assistance through the Salvation Army’s Project Bundle-Up program once every two years, and must provide proof of monthly income and expenses and verification of children at the time of application.

Those who were beneficiaries of Project Bundle-Up program in 2013 are not eligible for this years program.

The program is open to Warren County residents only.

Last year the Salvation Army in Warren served 42 families for a total of three seniors and 94 children.

“With fall only weeks away, we are reminded winter will soon be here. Meteorologists are predicting the winter of 2015 will bring more severe cold,” Melissa Fereday, director of Project Bundle-Up, said. “The Salvation Army has already begun preparing for a busy Project Bundle-Up season. The ‘warm’ rewards of this wonderful program have been felt for nearly 30 years, as it provides new winter outerwear to needy children and seniors.”

Project Bundle-Up assists qualifying children and senior citizens with new outerwear for the coming winter season. The project is partially funded by the WTAE-TV Bundle-Up Auction in Pittsburgh, which includes the “Weekend in Warren” golf package sponsored by the Horton House, Cable Hollow Golf Course, Conewango Valley Golf Course, Hog Wild BBQ, and Ralph E’s Pub Restaurant & Lounge.

Every year Project Bundle-Up hosts an auction, which will be held on Friday, Aug. 29 through Friday, Sept. 29 at www.projectbundleup.com/OnlineAuction.html.

Anyone wishing to support Project Bundle-Up financially may send donations to The Salvation Army, 311 Beech St., Warren, and designate the gift for Project Bundle-Up. For more information on the program, call 723-8950.
