Warren finishes a strong second; Gignac medalist
TITUSVILLE -Warren shot its best round of the season on Tuesday, finishing a closer second despite rainy conditions on the back 9 at its Region 3 megamatch at Oakland Beach.
“After the ninth hole, it absolutely poured; they went back out after a half hour and I don’t think there was a single kid that completely (imploded),” said Warren coach Dan Passmore, whose Dragons shot a season-low four-person 313 to Meadville’s 303.
Meadville remains in first with 20 points – undefeated in region megamatches – and Warren has 15 team points.
Andrew Gignac was a first-time medalist, leading the Dragons and the region with a 72. Nate Sandberg was fourth overall at 75, Anthony Deppas and Nick Giambrone shot an 83 each, Tanner Stanz 84, and Jake McCollough 90.
“320 is a good score – this group is capable of shooting under 310, which I’d like to do this year,” said Passmore. “They are certainly capable of shooting an incredible score. I think things finally clicked for (Deppas)… I’d love to beat Meadville, but I don’t want it to be because Meadville didn’t play well.”
