Lady Dragons 4th, but freshman Wilson region medalist

UNION CITY – Warren’s girls golf team took fourth at Tuesday’s Region 3 megamatch in Union City, but may have had the highlight of the season anyway.

Freshman Rachel Wilson was the medalist with her season-low nine-hole 37 to top all of the Class AAA and Class AA competition.

“These girls will never be satisfied with a fourth place finish,” said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. “However, Rachel Wilson’s megamatch-leading 37 was the highlight of the year so far. Tonight she brought her ‘A game’ and then some. Plus, Clancy Fyock is consistently outscoring her opponents. Clancy will play a key roll if we are going to have success at districts.”

Megan Smoulder has shot a 37 this season, but came in second on Warren with a 48 Tuesday. Fyock shot a 54, and Libby Hammond and Abby Cromwell 61 each.

Villa Maria (AA) led with a 187, Mercyhurst Prep (AA) 189, McDowell (AAA) 190, and Warren (AAA) 200.

The Lady Dragons are off until next week.
