Warren freshman Hahn earns medal at McDowell invite
MILLCREEK – Warren’s boys finished 12th and girls 14th – out of 22 teams – at Saturday’s 40th Annual McDowell Invitational.
“It gives you a place to start,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach, whose Knights also competed – with Ike’s girls 21st.
Warren’s Gabby Hahn was the top finisher between the two schools, finishing 36th (point-scoring time) in 22:08. It was the freshman’s personal-best time and was the only county runner in the top 50 out of 156 girls. However, Ansley Cernjul, another freshman, was right there at 51st in 22:53.
Other Lady Dragons included: Anna Falvo, 23:48, 74th; Deanna Hahn, 24:20, 84th; Michaela Lind, 26:14, 110th; Kristina Weikert, 33:43, 138th, and; Claudia Olson, 35:41, 139th.
Warren’s Tanner Burns was 51st out of 160 boys in 18:33, with teammate Max Pierson 15 seconds behind at 18:48.
Other Dragons were: Dan Jenkins, 19:01, 65th; Blake Ristau, 19:06, 68th; Mark Reiff, 19:12, 71st; Seth Johnson, 20:39, 114th; Jacob Tichenor, 21:17, 130th; Christian Olson 21:30; Cade McChesney 21:57; Troy Shattuck 22:01; Ryan McGuinness 22:42; Reed Swanson 22:57; Domingo Blume-Hearn 23:21, and; Travis Wilcox 30:45.
“The race this year is much better than we started last year,” said Warren coach Julia Dustin. “There are a lot of positive points for each of the athletes and a lot of areas we know we still need to work on. Having Gabby Hahn get a medal was really nice – it shows how working hard can pay off. The boys team has a really strong grouping right now and that is exciting, now we just need to work on getting faster. The girls team is going to be a lot better than they were last year with the addition of some new faces. Overall, it is a great start to our season and it will be exciting as the kids show improvement.”
For the Lady Knights, Julia Bauer was 69th in 23:32, Kate Daugherty 105th in 25:14, Alecia Straight 109th in 25:44, Grace Thompson 121st in 26:32, Naomi Haight 133rd in 27:41, and Hannah Bortz 143rd in 29:15. They were personal-best times for Daugherty and Thompson.
The Ike boys have a small team, with Jacob McCool 135th in 21:52, Tyler Burnell 143rd in 22:39, Derek Lasecki 144th in 22:44, and Jason Morine 153rd in 25:15.
