Robert W. Wilson, 89, of National Forge Rd., Irvine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday August 28, 2014 at the Rouse Warren Co. Home.
He was born April 13, 1925 in Kane, Pa., a son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Wallace) Wilson Sr. Robert served in the US Army Air Force with the 73rd Bomb Wing Squad out of Saipan, Japan during WWII, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked as and electrician for the National Forge Co. for 44 years, retiring from there in 1986. Robert was a member of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Youngsville, where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Veteran of Foreign Wars, and enjoyed golfing, bowling and square dancing.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Doris (Walker) Wilson, whom he married February 19, 1949 at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Warren, a son Jeffrey (Stephanie) Wilson, and a daughter Cynthia A. Wilson, both of Warren, 2 grandchildren, Ryan and Scott Alexander and 3 great grandchildren, Dylan, Brody and Trent Alexander.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Frederick Wilson Jr., and his beloved pet beagle, Molly.
Friends will be received on Tuesday (September 2nd) in the gathering space at St. Luke’s R.C. Church from 47 p.m. A vigil service will be held there at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. John Neff, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Warren. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by members of the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard.
