Marvin Sliter

Marvin A. Sliter, 92, formally of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 26, 2014 at the Rouse Warren Co. Home.

He was born March 25, 1922 in Pittsfield, a son of the late Fred and Velma (Messenger) Sliter. Marvin was a WWII Veteran Serving in the US Army in Germany. He fought in the battle of the Bulge earning a Bronze Star. He worked for 33 years as a union electrician for local# 174 in Warren and also local #56 in Erie, retiring in 1985. Marvin was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Youngsville American Legion, the Sugar Grove AMVets Club, and the VFW in Corry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, feed in birds and horseshoes.

He is survived by 2 sons, Robert (Linda) Sliter of Warren and Randal Sliter of Youngsville, a daughter Nancy (Ivan) Johnson of Sugar Grove, a brother Carl Sliter of Pittsfield, a sister Betty Alcorn of Garland, 9 grandchildren, a son-in-law Jerry Trask, Frewsburg, NY, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Groves) Sliter, whom he married June 19, 1942 in Pittsfield, and who died March 4, 1984, a daughter Janet Trask and a son Daniel Sliter, 2 sisters Marion Groves and Frances Buck, a grandson Jeremy Sliter, and a half brother Vern Messenger.

Friends will be received on Friday from 47 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St. in Youngsville. A funeral service will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with his grandson, Nathan Bailey, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wrightsville Cemetery. Full military honors will be given by members of the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard.
