2014-15 season for Warren Players will include some great, classic shows
Warren Players has announced a great line-up of shows for the 2014-15 season: “Spamalot,” “Arms and the Man” and “You’re a Good Man Charley Brown.”
The season will kick off with the winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, Monty Python’s “Spamalot.” “Spamalot” is the outrageous musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic “Monty Python and The Holy Grail.” “Spamalot” tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. The book and lyrics were written by Eric Idle, who also wrote the music in collaboration with John Du Prez and Neil Innes. This is a highly irreverent parody of the Authurian Legend and is rated PG-13. Show dates will be Oct. 23-25 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
The new year, 2015, will kick off with the readers theater selection, “Vintage Hitchcock, A Live Radio Play,” set in the studio of WBFR Radio. Actors will present three classic tales from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. “The Lodger,” “Sabotage,” and “The 39 Steps” will come to life in this radio play complete with vintage commercials and live sound effects.
George Bernard Shaw’s “Arms and the Man” is a romantic comedy that takes place in 1885 during the Serbo-Bulgarian War. Raina Petkoff is engaged to the gallant Sergius Saranoff, hero of the recent Bulgarian victory over the Serbs. But she is distracted by the abrupt arrival of Captain Bluntschli, a Swiss mercenary who fought for the Serbian army. He takes refuge in her bedroom after the battle and although he is initially threatening, reveals that he carries chocolate creams instead of bullets. Show dates will be Feb. 19-21 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.
Join Players in May for the Jack-In-The-Box production of “Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Kids!” Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit, and Owl but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship, and sharing snacks. This show dates are May 14-16 at 7 p.m. and May 17 at 2 p.m.
Warren Players’ summer show offering will be “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” It’s a 1967 musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts. It tells the story of an average day in the life of the famous comic strip child hero, Charlie Brown, who can’t seem to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl. Nor can his friend Lucy attract her crush, the piano-playing Schroeder. Meanwhile Snoopy and Linus daydream and the rest of their friends battle with kites, school, baseball and misunderstandings before finally coming to realize what makes them truly happy. Show dates will be July 23-25 at 8 p.m. and July 26 at 2 p.m.
