Lady Dragons even record with 3-2 win over Central
The Lady Dragons have their “ace in the hole” in the doubles pair of sisters Maria and Maribeth Miller.
Like last Friday’s match against McDowell, Tuesday’s meeting with Central Tech was tied at 2-2 heading to the second doubles pairing. The Millers scored a huge break-of-serve to take the first set 6-4 and won the second second set 6-3 to nail down the team match over the visiting Falcons.
“These girls have real chemistry on the tennis court. Big sister Maria is the leader, and Maribeth can really be a shot-maker as well,” said Warren coach Jeff Barsch, whose team improved to 2-2 with the victory. “This was a big match for the Dragons. We are 2-2 on the season now, but more importantly we are 2-1 against AAA opponents.”
Warren now plays in Class AAA, and has defeated 2013 Team Champion McDowell and finalist Central Tech in back-to-back matches. Fairview is curriently the top Class AAA team in District 10 followed by the Lady Dragons.
“One of our team goals is to win those AAA matches in order to get to the Team Championships in October,” added Bartsch, “We will see McDowell and Central again in a few weeks and we will be ready.”
Central took points with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles over Warren’s Alexis Vavala and Phoebe Nelson.
Senior Megan Waterfield took control of her match with a solid 6-0, 6-3 win over her opponent in third singles for her second-consecutive victory.
Warren’s top doubles pair of Kim Parroccini and Morgan Lemmon had no difficulty in defeating Central Tech 6-0, 6-0 to tie the match at two wins each.
Lemmon and Parroccini also picked up an 8-1 win in exhibition doubles, Rachel Cecco and Madalyn Harding won 8-0, Cecco and Lemmon teamed up to win 8-0, and Nelson picked up an 8-0 win in singles.
Warren is now 2-2 on the season and will visit Franklin next Wednesday.
