Dragons 2nd at home match; Sandberg leads

Meadville continues to lead the way with its third straight Region 3 win, but Warren had a strong second-place showing on Monday in its home megamatch at Blueberry Hill.

Nate Sandberg was once again medalist with an 18-hole, 1-under-par 71 – ahead of four Meadville golfers.

Warren coach Dan Passmore said first-place Meadville has six golfers all capable of shooting in the 70’s on any given day, so Warren has to bring its “A” game.

The Dragons top four shot a 318 on Monday to Meadville’s 299.

“I expect us to shoot a sub-310 at some point this year, which is really good,” said Passmore.

Andrew Gignac’s 76 was sixth, and Anthony Deppas, Nick Giambrone, Tanner Stanz and Jacoby Passmore shot between 86 and 92, respectively.

“To average under 80 is great,” said Passmore, whose Dragons are at Oil City (Cross Creek) on Thursday.
