Warren second at opening megamatch
CONNEAUT LAKE-The Warren boys started their season on the links with a second place finish in Tuesday’s Region 3 megamatch at Oakland Beach Golf Course.
Nate Sandberg tied with Meadville’s Zack Ford for the low round of 74 over 18 holes. Following on Warren’s score sheet was Andrew Gignac at 77, Anthony Deppas at 79, and Tanner Stanz at 89 for a team total of 319.
Taylor Knowlton and Nick Giambrone rounded out the Dragons’ roster with scores of 90 and 91, respectively.
“I was happy with our score,” said Warren coach Dan Passmore. “They count four (individual scores), so if the team score is under 320 it means you have an average under 80; that’s always good.”
Meadville took first in the team standings with a tally of 305 followed by Warren’s 319. Conneaut finished third on its home course with a score of 384 and Oil City scored 405.
“We knew at the beginning Meadville was going to be tough,” added Passmore. “I’m hoping it goes back and forth between the two of us.”
The Dragons are back in action on Wednesday, hosting the 12-team Blueberry Classic at Blueberry Hill Golf Course. The Classic is set to tee off at 9 a.m.
