First United Methodist welcomes new pastor
Dr. Mark E. Hecht is the new pastor of First United Methodist Church as of July 1. Prior to being appointed to Warren, Hecht served at Park United Methodist Church, North East; Mt. Lebanon in Pittsburgh; Janes in Creighton, Pa.; and Smithfield United Church in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Hecht holds a bachelor of arts degree in religious studies from Allegheny College, a master of divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He currently serves as adjunct professor at both Mercyhurst University and Gannon University where he teaches courses in Protestant Church History, Comparative Religions, Introduction to Scripture and New Testament History.
In addition to serving on, as well as leading, numerous national, conference and district committees of the United Methodist Church, Hecht has a passion for Covenant Discipleship Ministries within the church and missions outside the church.
He is married to Karen L. Hecht who is employed by Widget Financial. They have been married 27 years and have four children: John Wesley, Aaron, Annie and Joshua.
“I am looking forward to working with the members of First United Methodist and others in the Warren community,” Hecht said. “The community reminds me very much of the town where I grew up in central Pennsylvania. The people have been very welcoming and I am excited to be here. My desire is to help the congregation continue its ministry and outreach to the Warren community and to offer opportunities for individuals, both inside and outside the church, to grow in their relationship with God, through study, small group ministries and most especially, worship.”
