Warren finished fourth out of nine District 10 teams and second among Class AAA squads at the Lady Dragons’ first and only home Region 3 megamatch of the season Thursday at Jackson Valley Golf Course.

Senior Megan Smoulder took advantage of playing on her home course to shoot the day’s low round of 40 over nine holes.

Freshman Rachel Wilson followed Smoulder on the Lady Dragons’ score sheet with a 48 in her first high school match, Libby Hammond shot a 51, Clancy Fyock shot 62, and Abby Cromwell rounded out the scoring at 70.

Only the top four scores are counted towards the team total.

“(Rachel) Wilson, who is an up and coming star for our team shot in the forties in her first match ever,” said Warren coach Tom Smoulder. “Libby Hammond did what Libby does, which is hang tough in the cool, windy conditions and shoot a very respectable round to keep us on the top half of the leaderboard.”

Smoulder, a returning First-Team Region 3 All-Star, topped Mercyhurst Prep’s Grace Brzozowski (41), independent golfer Michaela Redinger (42) and McDowell’s Lindsey Swanson (42) in the individual standings.

Villa Maria went home with the team title after scoring a 189 on the day. McDowell followed at 193, Mercyhurst Prep at 199, Warren at 203, Union City and Fort LeBoeuf each at 224, and Strong Vincent at 230. North East and Meadville did not have the required four golfers to register a team score.

The Lady Dragons will return to action on Monday in another megamatch hosted by Villa Maria at Downing Golf Course in Erie.
