Scott Edward Steffan, 61, of Warren, passed into the next life at 3:30 am Thursday, August 14, 2014, surrounded by his family, in Kane Community Hospital following a threeyear battle with melanoma. He was born April 22, 1953 in Sheffield to Mary Hice Steffan, Sheffield and the late Michael Steffan, Sr.
A lifelong area resident, Scott was employed for 20 years at Warren Components, 20 years at the Warren County School District and served as a maintenance man for the YMCA, Lincoln Woods and Sheffield Country Manor apartments.
He was a member of the Warren Eagles Aerie and a former member of Sheffield Rod & Gun. During his childhood, Scott attended Bethany Lutheran Church and later went to St. Anthony of Padua.
Family always came first with Scott and that included many of his children’s friends who saw him as a father figure. His whole world was the kids, family dinners, and cookouts usually several times a week. These were times of “Nickelation” (his term for good natured harassment) which would keep everybody laughing. Scott often said that he worked all year for vacation which included Orlando and the Outer Banks.
Scott is survived by his wife of 42 years, Vanessa Overbeck Steffan whom he married June 5, 1972 in Fayetteville, NC; five children, April Barr with husband Scott, Sheffield, Heather Steffan with Mike McKarski, Sheffield, Laura Fiscus with husband Josh, Salvo, NC, Gregory Steffan with wife Holly, Tiona and Ceara Steffan, Warren; three brothers, Michael Steffan, JR. with wife Margo, Sheffield, David Steffan with wife Shelley, Sheffield, and James Steffan with wife Julie, Sheffield; a sister Marlene Austin with husband Scott, St. Petersburg, PA; eleven grandchildren, Ashley Barr, Adam Barr, Dylan McNeal, Landon McNeal, Tanner Barr, Kolten Johnson, Scottlyn Barr, Kadence Steffan, Madison Fiscus, Caleb Steffan, and Sydney Barr; best friend Charles Merritt with wife Diane, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Scott’s life will be held at 3:00 pm in Bethany Lutheran Church, Saturday, August 16, 2014 with Reverend David M. Blank, pastor, officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 12:00 3:00 pm Saturday preceding the service. Burial will follow in Sheffield Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Kane Community Hospital or a charity of choice.
