Town meeting

The Sugar Grove Borough Council is inviting the community to a town meeting at the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department building on Aug,. 18 at 7 pm. The council would like community input on the future of the Sugar Grove Elementary School facility.

Flea Market

this weekend

This Saturday is the Chandlers Valley Community Center Flea Market. It happens every third Saturday of the month through Sept. 20. The market will begin at 8 a.m. and will run until 3 p.m. Vendors will be set up in the Chandlers Valley ball field. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or you would like more information on the event, you can contact Marlene Falconer at 489-3760.

EMHS ready to go

You might still see construction happening on the outside of the Eisenhower Middle High School, but inside the office staff and Principal Kelly Martin have been working hard getting all the plans in place for the start of another great school year.

The Middle Level Cookout will be happening Saturday, Aug,. 30 from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. in the EMHS parking lot. All Middle level students are welcome to attend.

After Aug. 18 the Student Home Access Center will be available for viewing. EMHS counselors will be available to assist anyone with needed schedule changes. Christopher Demorest, senior high counselor, will be available Aug. 20 for anyone in Grade 12 with the last name starting with A through L from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and M through Z from 12:30-3 p.m. On Aug. 21 he will be available for anyone in Grade 11 with the last name starting with A through L from 8:30-11:30 and M through Z from 12:30-3. Aug. 22 will be for Grade 10 A through L from 8:30-11:30 and M through Z from 12:30-3. Aug. 25th Grade 09 students A through L from 8:30-11:30 and M through Z from 12:30-3. oleen Golab, EMHS junior high counselor, will be available to assist anyone with schedule changes on Aug. 22 for Grade 8 A through L from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and M through Z from 12:30-3 p.m.; Aug. 25 Grade 7 A through L from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and M through Z from 12:30-3 p.m.; Aug. 26, Grade 6 A through L from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and M through Z from 12:30-3 p.m. There are no appointments necessary; it is just first come first serve.

This year, back to school teacher in-service days will be held on Aug. 27, 28, 29, and Sept. 2. Sept. 1 is Labor Day and the first day of School will be Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The EMHS Bonfire will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10 beginning at 6 p.m. The EMHS Open House will be Thursday Sept. 11th from 7 -8:30 p.m. and the Homecoming football game will be held Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. The EMHS Homecoming dance will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, from 7 -10:30 p.m.

Chandlers Valley

Festival

On Aug. 23, Chandlers Valley will be holding its 3rd Annual Valley Outdoor Festival.

This year’s Valley Outdoor Festival will be held at the Chandlers Valley Baseball Field on Jackson Run Road from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to take part in any or all of the festival events. Some of the most exciting activities will be the Sportsmens Challenge which is a series of judged sporting events such as bow and arrow, target shooting, canoeing and more. The popular People Pull is an event designed to have 2-man teams attempt to pull a sled packed with weighted sandbags. Registration will take place for all events at 10 a.m. on the day of the festival with the exception of the cornhole tournament. During the festival there will be Childrens Activities, a Pre-1965 Tractor Cruise In, a judged photo contest, a favorite Pie Judging Contest and even more popular Pie Auction. Admission to the fun day is free and food vendors, craft vendors and music will be on site.

Lottsville

Heritage Day

The community of Lottsville will host its Annual Heritage Day Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 13. In 2015 the community will celebrate its 200th Anniversary. Currently, organizers are gearing up for this year’s celebration. Something new is the launching of Chinese lanterns in memory of a loved one. There is a fee of $5 prior to the end of the day. Each individual will be announced as the lantern takes flight. Bring a dish to share with the crowd, table service will be provided. There will also be a Chinese Auction and bringing an auction item is suggested to help in assisting the support of this event.This year’s booklet for the event will be mailed within a week and if you would like included in this mailing, please contact Ruth Ann DeVore 489-3408 or Don Martin 489-3262 to be included in the 2015 mailing.

Community lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. The lunch on the 3rd Wednesday of the month is held at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley.

2014 Freedom Walk

The Annual America Supports You Freedom Walk will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Town Park. This year’s event is sponsored by the Sugar Grove AMVETS (American Veterans) and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. The walk will begin and end at the Sugar Grove Park. Sugar Grove will be participating in this Nationwide America Supports You Freedom Walk to Remember 9-11 Victims and Honor Military Past and Present Who Protect American’s Freedom.

On this day, the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks against the United States, Sugar Grove will join cities across America to host an America Supports You Freedom Walk.

EHS Class of 1973

The Eisenhower Graduating Class of 1973 will meet at the Bucket Cafe in Sugar Grove on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast. If you are part of that class and will be attending, please call 489-7780 or 757-8610 to let us know you can attend.
