Results from May food service inspections

The following establishments were inspected in May and declared in compliance by the Department of Agriculture:

Frosty Jacks, 922 Newton Road, Pittsfield, three violations: spatula was stored under the pizza oven in food debris; interior top of the enclosed deep-frying unit has heavy buildup of grease, right side griddle has heavy carbon buildup; and middle agitater on milkshake mixer has food debris on and above mixer.

Tops Markets, 28 Railroad St., Youngsville, four violations: clams sold in the retail area have no identification as to origination of same, tags kept from master container as required, but there is nothing on the packages being sold to indicate which tag they match up to; lack of a backflow prevention device on the water line for the sink in the back stockroom; buildup of food debris and/or dust in the following areas: under and around the bread slicer in the deli, under the produce shelf within the produce walk-in, back of the condenser unit within the dairy walk-in, and on the condenser guard within the bakery walk-in; and buildup of dead insects in the wall-mounted pest control device, needs emptied on a regular basis.

Bear Path Inc. doing business as Tippy Canoe, 99 Hill Dr., Tidioute, five violations: moldy sausage within walk-in cooler; soda lines and/or non-integral cold plate device installed in ice bin and in direct contact with ice used for consumer beverages; the light above the three-basin sink is missing both end caps, making coverage incomplete; there is food debris on the floor of the stockroom – also, there is a build up of dust on the lights and power cords above the three-basin sink; and mops are not being hung to air dry.

Cove Drive-In and Restaurant, 15906 Route 62, Tidioute, one violation: cracked container lid above the sink.

Evan’s Market, 148 Main St., Tidioute, one violations: facility has 90 days from today’s date (5/23) to obtain/employ a certified food employee and post a valid certificate in public view.

Shaw House, 15 S. Main St., P.O. Box 814, Sheffield, no violations.

Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 6045 Cherry Grove Road, Clarendon, no violations.

Russell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 111 Perrigo Ave., Russell, one violation: scale build-up on floor below the low-temp dish machine.

Dunham’s Frosty Chalet, 9050 Route 6, Tiona, two violations: between-use ice cream scoops stored in a container with chemical sanitizer container, which is not an approved storage method for in-use and between-use utensils; and commercially processed foods, meatballs and roast beef, only heated to 132?F before being placed in crock pots at 135?F or above. As discussed, cooled left overs and fully cooked commercially processed foods shall be reheated to 165?F within two hours or less, and then hot held at 135?F or above. Products were prepared at 11 am.

Towne Tavern, Main and Railroad St, Clarendon, two violations: dust build-up observed under bar counter tops above cold hold units and three-compartment sink; and handwash sink in the kitchen observed to be leaking into catch bucket below

Chase Auction, 5555 Rt. 957, Russell, two violations: mounted can opener blade severely dented/nicked and bent, no longer sharp or in good repair; and food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Latest bacteriological water test results available and reviewed for coliform dated 10/21/2009.

Wendy’s Cafe, 200 Main St., Russell, three violations: food employee cooking a raw animal derived product (hamburgers), and then preparing a ready-to-eat salad without a proper handwash and glove change in-between; Pepsi-brand cold hold unit had a temperature range of 45?F (top) to 53?F (bottom); and food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration of Quaternary Ammonia, used for the three-compartment sink.

Dollar Tree, 2745 Market St., Warren, three violations: prepackaged food (probably sardines) not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, net weight, distributed by statement and/or nutritional facts; women’s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins; and there is an accumulation of food spillage under the areas of pasta, rice, and peanuts which needs to be cleaned.

Blueberry Hill Golf Development, 6528 Cable Hollow Road, Russell, three violations: chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required – the sanitizer solution container was empty; trash receptacle containing food residue in kitchen / food prep area not in continuous or immediate use, and not covered as required; and fluorescent tube light over the three-compartment sink, in the bar area, is not shielded or shatterproof as required

Cable Hollow Golf Course, 405 Norberg Road, Russell, one violation: three baked potatoes stored in cold hold unit, directly on shelving, rather than in a package, covered container, or wrappings as required.

Red Oak Campground, 225 Norman Road, Russell, one violation: food facility has lost its certified food employee over three months ago and has not replaced the certified food employee as required.
