Ruth Weaver

Ruth A. Weaver, age 93, of West Hickory, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family members.

Ruth was born February 8, 1921 in Mather, PA, the daughter of the late George and Alice (Lewis) Baker. While in high school her family moved to Michigan so Ruth lived with an aunt until her graduation from Waynesburg High School in 1939. After graduation Ruth joined her family in Michigan where she worked for Ford Motor Co. and also as a “Rosie the Riveter” for the war effort. While visiting relatives in Pennsylvania she met Lloyd Weaver and after a brief courtship they were married on May 22, 1943.

Ruth was a “stay at home” housewife while she raised her children and helped her husband run the family farm near Lippincott, Pa. In 1964 they sold their farm and moved to West Hickory where Lloyd worked on the Edgar farm and Ruth ran a planer for Cropp Lumber Co. They then built a house on Smokey Hill and lived there several years until moving to Newmansville. They lived there for a time until Lloyd’s failing health necessitated a move back to West Hickory next to their granddaughter Karlissa Snell.

Ruth was a woman that loved the outdoors. She enjoyed planting flowers, working in the yard, and building bonfires and playing with the fire. Her other interests included playing bingo and watching Pirate games. She was seldom alone because there were usually family members at her home.

Preceding her in death was Lloyd, her husband of 62 years, who died July 21, 2005. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son Timothy Lloyd; 3 sisters; Lois Baker, Nellie Baker, and Patsy Nickles; 2 brothers; Wilson Baker and Royce Baker; a granddaughter Gina Prelog; and a grandson Gregory Weaver.

Surviving is a son Allen Weaver of East Hickory and his companion Ginny Curran; 3 daughters; Janice Hutchinson and husband Bob of Evensville, Tenn., Cheryl Tarr and husband Pat of Leesburg Fla., and Eleanor Weaver of West Hickory; 2 brothers; Dale Baker of Olive Branch, Miss, and Art Baker of Sarasota Fla. 2 sisters; Jane Piatt of Washington, Pa. and Sara Ida Marshbanks of Milford Mich. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Darla Bulls, Bobby Hutchinson, Roger Hutchinson, Tim Prelog, William (Buster) Hall, Karlissa Snell, Tabatha Stivason, and Brad Weaver; 17 greatgrandchildren; Jacob, Isaac, and Levi Bulls, Elijah, Savannah, and McKenzie Hutchinson, Hannah and Rachel Hutchinson, Alysha Prelog, Jessie and Dylon Snell, Tricia Johnston, Bryce Weaver, Bradley and Benny Weaver, and Nathan and Abby Stivason.
