Pastor Ralph and Mary Culp are retiring from ministry at the end of August, and will return to their home in Warren. “G & S Helping Hands” (formerly known as United Methodist Women’s Group of Grand Valley and Sanford churches) will host a farewell open house for them at Grand Valley Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. Snacks, beverages and dessert will be served. Everyone who wants to celebrate the many years the Culps have served the local communities is welcome to attend. Any assistance community members want to give the group in preparing refreshments would be appreciated; the group will meet at Grand Valley United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 15, beginning at 1 p.m. The fire hall is on Route 27 in the middle of Grand Valley.

AOC on the move
On Sunday, Aug. 10, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will ride bikes on the Little Toby Trail from Ridgway to Brockway and back for a round-trip total of 36 miles. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the AOC will ride bikes in the Scandia area. Participants will meet at the Russell Post Office at 5:30 p.m., then shuttle bikes to Scandia, then ride Scandia Road to Hatch Run and back to Russell via Big Four Road. For more information, call Pat Spicer at 757-8331.
On Tuesday Aug. 19, the AOC will do trail maintenance on the Toms Run Trail on the Allegheny National Forest. Participants should bring water, a snack, gloves, and a small hand tool and meet at Hearts Content at 10 a.m. The club will also provide loppers and other trail tools.
