This week at Chapman SP

The following events are planned at Chapman State Park this weekend:

On Friday, “Marvelous Mammals” will be shown from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about the mammals of Pennsylvania and what makes them special. We will go on a short hike to view signs of mammals in the park. Meet at the amphitheater.

An “Owl Prowl” will follow from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Meet the Naturalist at the Amphitheater to learn about the owls of Pennsylvania. We will also go on a short hike to see if we can call in some owls. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp.

A bat program, “Just Hanging Around,” will be held Saturday from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Meet at the Beach Concession Stand to learn about bats and then visit the observation box to get a closer look at these magnificent creatures.

Bat Box Building will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Come to the Environmental Learning Center (across from the main park office) to learn about the decline of Pennsylvania’s bats and how putting up bat boxes can be beneficial. There is a $10 donation for this program. Pre-registration is REQUIRED as supplies are limited. Please call the park office (814) 723-0250 to register by 8/1/2014. Cash only payments are due at the start of the program. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.

A non-denominational worship service will be held at park amphitheater at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The concession stand, with boat rentals, snacks, ice, firewood and more, is open from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (closed Tuesdays). Use your camping receipt to receive a 10-percent discount on boat and bike rental.
