Richard (Dick) Bruce Amacher, recently of Riverside, was born in Warren, PA May 15, 1926. He was 88. He was born to Rose and Frank Amacher and had three siblings, Frank Jr., Robert and Helen (O’Connor). All have predeceased him. Dick married Patricia Dexter (19281993) in 1949, also from Warren and they had four children, Robert Amacher of Desert Center, Rebecca Amacher of Sonoma CA, and Wendy (Amacher) Smith of Riverside. Son Richard D. Amacher (19531991) predeceased him. Dick served in the Navy in WWII on the Stockdale DE 399 and on the Midway. He was discharged honorably and went into the Merchant Marines for a time. He then went to work in Warren at the Penelec Power Company. In 1964 the Amacher family left Starbrick, PA and moved to California settling in the Orange County area. Dick worked for the State of California University System at UCI for many years as a Chief Engineer, then Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds before retiring and starting his own small business, by this time he was living in San Clemente, CA with his second wife Carole (Marsaudon).
Dick and Carole enjoyed living so close to the sea and spent their time in retirement traveling. They traveled coast to coast and in Europe. After Carole’s passing in 2012, Dick traveled with his son Robert around the country visiting friends and relatives. Dick moved to an assisted living apartment in Riverside in 2013. He is survived by two grandsons Rich Amacher of Oregon, John Hollar of North Carolina and a granddaughter Melissa Smith of Riverside. He is also survived by greatgrandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and greatnieces and great nephews. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral services are through Lesneski Mortuary, 640 South El Camino Real, San Clemente 92672. There will be a viewing at the mortuary on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 1:00 2:00 pm. Service will be Thursday July 31, 2014 at 11:00 am at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
