Barbara Gerould

Barbara Gerould, 90, formerly of Warren, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on May 29, 2014, in Roseville, CA. She was born March 27, 1924, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late W. Harold Smith and Marie Keefer Smith.

Barbara was a graduate of Grove City College. She and her husband to be, Lar-ry Gerould, grew up in the Warren area and were ac-quaintances through the depression, pre war years, and World War II. They later became reacquainted, fell in love, and were mar-ried on February 16, 1946.

The couple moved to Johnstown, NY, then Schenectady, NY, where their first two sons were born, and then to Bingham-ton, NY, the birthplace of their third son. In 1962, the family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where General Electric Company had founded its computer division. After a stint in Huntsville, AL, where Larry worked on the Apollo Guidance Comput-er, and another stop in AZ, they moved to Los Gatos, CA, in 1966. Barbara’s sons having entered middle and high school, she attended San Jose State and obtained her teaching credential. She taught English and Business subjects at the newly formed Prospect High School in Saratoga, where she also ran the school bank. Barbara left a mark on many appreciate students who remember her to this day.

Barbara was a loving mother, and trusted advisor to her three sons. Her grandchildren enjoyed spending time with her whenever possible. She could discuss any personal subject with great empathy and wisdom. She was also an active participant at her church for so long as she was able, and loved to spend time with her neigh-bors.

She is survived by three sons, Richard Gerould, and wife, Lisa, Stuart Gerould, and wife, Kathy, and Bill Gerould, and wife, Patty; as well as five grandchildren, Briant, Tyler, Margot, Bowen and Joy-Marie Gerould.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Gerould, in 1999; and two sisters, Eleanor Morris and Helen.

A memorial service was held in Roseville, CA, on Saturday, June 28, 2014. A private graveside service at Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA, will be held at the con-venience of the family.
