Hospital board declines to renew CEO’s contract
Warren General Hospital announced Friday the departure of John Papalia as chief executive officer of the hospital.
Carmen Ferranto, Board Chairman, noted that with the dramatic changes in healthcare, the Board of Directors concluded the need for a change in executive leadership.
Holli Wolfe, patient and public relations representative for WGH, confirmed that Papalia’s contract had not been renewed.
The hospital’s board of directors said in Friday’s announcement it will immediately begin a search for a new CEO. In the meantime, Ferranto offered his confidence in the current staff and their ability to manage the daily operations until such time as a successor is chosen.
Ferranto wished to reassure the Warren community that the Board is dedicated to the WGH mission statement, “community health with quality and compassion.” The Board is also committed to maintaining an independent community hospital.
Ferranto expressed his high level of satisfaction in not only the medical staff, but the overall services provided by WGH. “We will continually focus on maintaining high standards of care at WGH,” he said.
