Boys Juniors win losers bracket final to set up rematch with DuBois

ST. MARYS-The Warren Boys Juniors have their work cut out for them if they’re going to advance out of the District 10 Tournament, but they’ll get their shot.

Warren will meet DuBois in the tournament final after defeating St. Marys by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. Warren needs to beat DuBois twice after advancing out of the losers bracket with a record of 3-1. DuBois handed the Boys Juniors their only loss of the tournament, 4-3, on Monday.

Jackson Knupp doubled home Adam Barker in the top of the second inning to give Warren an early lead. Pinch-runner Mitchell Bryant came on in place of Knupp and scored on a single by Derek Knapp one batter later.

The lead wouldn’t last long, as St. Marys tied the game at 2-2 in their half of the second. Lance Baldensperger took over in relief of starting pitcher Austyn Cummings with the bases loaded and one out, and retired the next two batters with a strikeout and a pop up to second.

Baldensperger finished the game out on the hill for Warren, allowing just one hit the rest of the way while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings. Baldensperger tossed 87 of his allotted 95 pitchers as per Little League rules.

With Baldensperger cruising, Evan Tremblay singled home Cummings to retake the lead for Warren in the third.

Tremblay then drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth that brought home Andrew Davidson, making it 4-2 in favor of Warren.

Tremblay finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in while Barker and Knupp notched extra-base hits.

Warren will travel to DuBois on Friday with the hopes of forcing a do-or-die game back at Old Legion Field Saturday afternoon.
