Boys Minors eliminated

Much like last game, the Warren Americans put up a good fight to end its Boys Minors Little League All-Stars season – 12-2 to visiting Fox Township, Johnsonburg, Ridgway (FJR) on Monday at Betts-Jackson Field.

Warren trailed 10-0 after three innings and could not recover. Ethan Wells pitched for FJR until being relieved in the fourth, and he didn’t allow a hit. He went 3-up, 3-down in the top of the first, and Warren didn’t have an answer offensively.

FJR scored twice in the first before pitcher Teagan Gray lifted them out of trouble with his first strikeout to end the inning. FJR scored four runs in each of the next two innings – a large enough lead to end the game after the top of the fourth if they could hold Warren scoreless. However, the Warren boys found new life against a new pitcher, and scored two runs.

Curt Darling walked, and Bryce Blair and Teagan Gray followed with Warren’s first two hits of the game to load the bases. Payton Barnes hit it to third, who threw to the catcher for one out, but the catcher threw back to third and into left field to score two for Warren. That extended the game and season – at least one half inning.

Darling may have extended the game himself with two nice catches in left field in the game, but FJR advances, after five straight wins, to play DuBois in the Boys Minors championship on Wednesday. FJR would have to win twice.
