Girls Majors win 10-5 to move to Section final
DUBOIS Scoring eight of their 10 runs with two outs, the Warren Girls Majors All Star team has moved into the Pennsylvania Little League Section I Girls Majors Tournament final as a result of a 10-5 win over Cochranton on Wednesday.
Coming into the game, Warren had won its first five games by a margin of 50-5.
That didn’t matter to Cochranton.
Coming out swinging, four of their first five hitters reached via a single, triple, error and walk respectively. The uprising turned into a four-run top of the first.
But Warren wasted no time wiping that away.
Julia Lobdell tripled to set the stage. Gracie Wood started the two out hit parade with an RBI single and would come around to score on a Kiersten Hoffman inside-the-park home run to cut the lead to 4-3. With a runner on later in the inning, Lexi Head hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.
Warren took the lead on a Julia Lobdell RBI single in the bottom of the second but Cochranton answered right back with a run in the top of the third.
But then Warren ripped the game wide open.
Kiersten Hoffman tripled in the bottom of the fourth. Ellie Lobdell reached on a walk and stole second.
Lexi Head hit a liner to the first baseman, who tried to get the runner at second, which allowed Hoffman enough time to tag from third and score to put Warren up 6-5.
The hit parade struck again to put the game out of reach.
Alexis Nyquist knocked home two on a single, Julia Lobdell tripled again, driving in one and Celia Chase rounded out the scoring with an RBI single of her own.
That was all the help Julia Lobdell would need in the circle. She pitched a complete game, walking five but striking out eight. Only one of the five Cochranton runs was earned.
In addition to scoring a run in the five-run third, Ellie Lobdell made a shoe-string catch in centerfield to end the fifth inning and, in the sixth, caught a fly ball in center and gunned down a runner at the plate to end the game.
Julia Lobdell had three hits for Warren, which is 2-0 in section play. Nyquist and Hoffman added two hits each for Warren, who tallied nine on the night.
With the win, Warren advances to the Section 1 final, slated for a 2 p.m. Saturday first pitch.
