Boys Juniors outslug Smethport in opener

MT. JEWETT – The Warren Boys Juniors opened tournament-play with a convincing 21-1 win over Smethport/Mt. Jewett on Saturday.

Warren pounded out 16 hits including three each from Nathan Betts and Austyn Cummings. Cummings drove in three runs while Derek Knapp tallied four RBI as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

Evan Tremblay and Matt Leonard drove in two runs each. Betts, Bryce Cummings, Lance Baldensperger, Adam Barker, Chris White, and Andrew Davidson all added one RBI. Bryce Cummings was 2-for-4 and Tremblay 2-for-3 on the day.

On the defensive side, Leonard shut down Smethport with six strikeouts over three innings pitched. Knapp took over in relief and finished with three strikeouts in a pair of scoreless innings.

Warren (1-0) will await the winner of the St. Marys and Bradford game which was rained out on Sunday.
