Maholic, Clark top team at DAV fishing tourney
John Maholic of Bradford and Matt Clark of Mt. Jewett won $4,459 as the top team in the Brant & Fields Commemorative Disabled American Veterans Benefit Walleye Tournament on Sunday, June 15, competing against 32 other teams.
Nineteen of those teams brought their limits in to be weighed.
Maholic and Clark weighed in with 11.72 pounds of walleye, and also took home the Alan Ward Whopper Walleye Award with a 4.7 pound fish.
Finishing in second were Joseph and Mike Papalia of Warren, with five fish weighing 8.2 pounds that earned them $1,596. Glenn and Matt Boser of Bradford won $798 for eight pounds of walleyes, Tom Means and Jerry Kelly of Bradford, $532 for 7.32 pounds, and Dan Page and Brian Mealy, $266 for 7.06 pounds, according to “Grizzly” Gary Wert, who serves as publicity chair for the Chapter 75 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Wert added that on July 11 and 12, the Cabelas’ Masters Walleye Circuit will be coming to Willow Bay. “Anglers from far and wide, as well as many locals will fish this event with the possibilities of winning big money. NBC Sports cameras will also be there,” he said.
