Hultquist, Blair shut out Youngsville in Sr. Legion
Blair used a masterful pitching performance from Matt Hultquist to defeat Youngsville Post 658, 3-0, in Senior American Legion Baseball action on Thursday at Old Legion Field.
Hultquist fired a complete-game one-hitter, striking out five Youngsville batters, while walking just one. Aaron Hoover was the tough-luck loser for Youngsville, striking out nine batters in six innings.
Blair coach Tyler Leichtenberger was happy with his pitcher’s performance, saying that Hultquist “got ahead early in the count and was aggressive with his fastball.”
Blair scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning when Hultquist doubled in Derek Reagle, who had singled. Reagle and Hultquist would be catalysts for the Blair offense in the fourth inning as well. After Reagle singled, Hultquist followed with a single of his own. Reagle would then steal third base and score when the throw to third sailed into the outfield.
Mitch Dorunda chased home Hultquist later in the inning with a single, giving Blair a permanent three-run lead.
Blair and Youngsville will both return to action on Monday. Blair hosts Corry Northwest Savings Bank, while Youngsville will host Post 135.
