Boys Minor Americans win opener
KANE – The Warren Boys Minors Americans opened tournament play with an 11-1 win over Kane in five innings on Thursday.
Zane Alexander delivered the knockout blow with a two-RBI triple in the top of the fifth to bring the 10-run rule in effect for Warren. Ben White and Kael Hunt both walked to start the inning and came in to score the final runs on Alexander’s hit.
Warren took the lead early with a run in each of the first three innings. Bryce Blair had an RBI single in the first while White and Payton Barnes brought in runs with fielder’s choices in the second and third.
The Americans broke the game open with six runs in the fourth thanks to a bases-loaded double by Teagan Gray and a bases-loaded triple by Conner Cummings. Cummings and Gray each finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate.
Blair tossed a gem of the game on the mound, striking out eight batters while allowing just two hits in his four innings of work. Carson Farr helped the defensive effort with a fantastic running catch in left field for an out in the third inning. The Americans advance to play the winner of Smethport/Mt. Jewett and Bradford on Monday. Smethport/Mt. Jewett defeated the Warren Nationals on Thursday, while Bradford opened the tournament with a first-round bye.

Smethport-Mt. Jewett 18, Warren Nationals 1
MOUNT JEWETT – The Warren Nationals opened two days late due to rainouts and got off to a 1-0 lead before falling to Smethport-Mt. Jewett, 18-1, on Thursday.
Landon Douvlos’ base hit led to a 1-0 Nationals lead in the top fo the first, but that would be Warren’s lone hit for the four-inning game.
The Nationals will play St. Marys (0-1) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Betts-Jackson Field in Warren.
