Dear editor:

While walking today I passed a mailman climbing steps to reach houses built atop a steep hill, where I noticed that one of the homeowners had attached a mailbox to the stair railing near the bottom of their steps.

The mailman merely had to open the box and place the letters inside.

I asked him why more people did not do that and he shrugged and replied that he did not know.

No doubt when you walk for a living every extra step matters, so for the sake of your postman I humbly suggest that homeowners who live at the top of steep steps consider putting a box near the bottom.
