Football schedules announced for Sheffield, Youngsville

The clock is ticking to the 2014 fall sports season.

For the Sheffield Wolverines, the new season is a chance to defend the school’s AML North title and an opportunity to return to the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Wolverines qualified as the seventh seed last year only to fall to second-seeded Curwensville in the first round.

Sheffield’s 2014 campaign will begin against Ridgway/Johnsonburg Aug. 30 on Wolverine Mountain. A pair of tough road match-ups await in Weeks 2 and 3.

The Wolverines visit defending D9 Class A champion Clarion on Sept. 5 before visiting Kane Sept. 12. Clarion advanced to the PIAA semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic. Kane defeated Sheffield in the AML Championship game last season and advanced as far as the D9 Class AA Final.

The schedule calms down, though only slightly, with Elk County Catholic at home in Week 4. The rest of the Wolverines’ schedule features home games against Cameron County, Coudersport, and Port Allegany as well as a road match-up against Eisenhower in Week 10.

The Youngsville Eagles will look to turn things around after an 0-9 season in 2013.

There won’t be any easing into the 2014 schedule; Youngsville opens at defending District 10 Class A Champion Lakeview on the road in Week 1 and visits county-rival Eisenhower – winners of two consecutive Region 2 titles – in Week 2.

The Eagles home opener at Mike Shine Field will be September 12 against Cambridge Springs. They will have three straight home games to end the regular season against Cochranton, Saegertown, and Seneca.
