Grace Walker

Grace Ellen Walker, 82, of Russell, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, holding her daughter’s hand. She was born July 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Marvin and Daisy Cole Walker. Grace was a lifelong resident of Russell, and was born in the home she had always lived in. In the past 3 years, she had been a resident of Golden Living in Warren.

Grace was a graduate of Warren High School. She was employed by Loranger Manufacturing, from which she retired after 33 years of service. Grace will always be remembered as a devoted and loving mother; a woman with many friends and a great love for her family. She was extremely thoughtful of other people, and known as a local historian of the Russell area. She also enjoyed crocheting. When she was younger, she was a talented roller skater and loved horses; and was one of the first members of the YU Saddle Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Darcy Marek, husband, Sam, of Russell; a sister, Bonnie Spear of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Walker Manelick Zingone; two brothers, Ralph and Douglas Walker. Grace is also preceded in death by loved ones that left too soon, Laura Manelick Hotaling, Mark Prowitt, Ryan Manelick, Jennifer Williams and Timothy Walker.

Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, on Tuesday, June 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain, Warren General Hospital and Rouse Home, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Grace loved her pet dogs, and realized the difficulty for some senior citizens with pets to afford veterinary care when they need it the most, so in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a fund that will be created in her honor at the Russell Veterinary Hospital, 1276 Pennsylvania 957, Russell, PA 16345. Her way of caring about others will continue on.
