Dorothy J. Slocum, 85, of Youngsville, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Rouse Warren County Home after a short illness.
Dorothy was born on August 16, 1928 in Franklin, Pa., a daughter to the late Lee and Jennie Shaffstall. She moved to the Warren area in 1958. Dorothy was proud of her work for a number of years at the “Safe Place” in Warren. She loved playing card games, bingo and attending church services at the Rouse. She was a member of Saron Lutheran Church in Youngsville.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, William L. Jr. and his wife, Connie of Youngsville, Roger A. and his wife, Karen of Corpus Christi, TX. and several grandchildren; Bryan Slocum of Lancaster, S.C., Robert and his wife, Carly of Irvine, Pa., David and his wife, Helen of Warren, Pa., Darla (Slocum) Roberts of Warren and Sherry (Slocum) Todd and her husband, Mike, of Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by several Great Grandchildren and a GreatGreat Grandson
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Sr., who died on January 10, 1982, a son, Leslie E. Slocum who died on August 14, 2012 and two sisters, Gladys and Helen.
Friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main Street in Youngsville on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M. and one hour prior to a funeral service on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, which will be held at the Saron Lutheran Church, 148 West Main Street in Youngsville at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke, pastor of the Interfaith Chapel, officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren County Memorial Park.
