Warren Girls Majors 10-run Bradford, improve to 2-0

Two games in, and the Warren Girls Majors All-Star team is 2-0.

Warren followed up its tournament-opening win against St. Marys with a 15-0 mercy-rule victory over Bradford Wednesday at North Warren’s Hawbaker Field.

Warren – playing as the away team after losing the opening coin toss – stormed out of the gate with four runs in the top of the first inning. Julia Lobdell doubled to score Alexis Nyquist, Celia Chase reached on an infield single, Gracie Wood brought in two with a double, and Kelsey Stuart doubled home Wood to make it 4-0.

Marissa Grubbs and Nyquist notched back-to-back singles to start the second inning, and another single by Chase scored one to extend the lead. A hard-hit ball by Wood was misplayed by the Bradford third baseman allowing Chase to score, and one more came home on Lexi Head’s sacrifice fly.

With the game firmly in Warren’s control, Jordan Sitler, Grubbs, Nyquist, and Ellie Lobdell each drew walks to bring in a run and load the bases for the heart of the lineup.

Wood knocked in another run with a shot down the third base line before Nyquist pulled off a delayed steal of home to make it a 10-0 Warren advantage. Kiersten Hoffman kept the rally going with a two-RBI double and scored herself on a passed ball before Bradford was able to escape the inning.

Nyquist would bring the mercy rule into play in the fourth inning with a two-run inside-the-park homer to make it 15-0.

While the runs piled up on the offensive side, Warren’s pitchers shut down Bradford with a dominant no-hit performance in four innings. Julia Lobdell started and struck out four batters in two innings of work before giving way to Trinity Wennberg, who struck out five in the final two frames.

Bradford advanced runners to third in each of the first two innings, but couldn’t break through for a run. Three walks was all that was allowed by the Warren duo.

Warren (2-0) will next play at DuBois (2-0) at 6 p.m. Monday in a battle of unbeatens.
