Russell man pleads to sex charges

A Russell man facing 174 criminal charges including rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault entered into a plea agreement Monday.

Daniel L. Brecht, 63, entered guilty pleas to five felonies and a misdemeanor during plea court proceedings Monday before Judge Gregory Hammond.

Four of the felony pleas are related to assaults on two victims under the age of 18 between 2003 and 2010.

Brecht pleaded guilty to rape – forcible compulsion (a felony of the first degree – F1), statutory sexual assault (F2), sexual assault (F2), and aggravated indecent assault – forcible compulsion (F2) in that case.

In a separate case, Brecht entered guilty pleas to indecent assault – victim less than 13 years of age (F3) and corruption of minors (a first-degree misdemeanor).

In the first case, 13 additional counts of rape, nine counts of statutory sexual assault, 13 counts of sexual assault, 20 counts of aggravated indecent assault – forcible compulsion, six counts of aggravated indecent assault – victim less than 13 years of age, 37 counts of indecent assault – forcible compulsion, six counts of indecent assault – victim less than 13 years of age, 20 counts of indecent assault – victim less than 16 years of age, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and 39 counts of corruption of minors, were not prosecuted.

In the second case, one count of indecent assault – victim less than 13 years of age, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts of indecent assault – without consent, were not prosecuted.
