Jammers fall in series finale, split with Mahoning Valley

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.-The Jamestown Jammers wrapped up a four-game set against Mahoning Valley with a 2-1, extra inning loss to the Scrappers Monday at Russell Diethrick Park.

After exploding for nine runs in Sunday’s win, the Jammers’ offense was silenced until the sixth inning when Carl Anderson connected on a one-out triple to the right side and came around to score on Erik Lunde’s single up the middle.

Mahoning Valley answered with a solo shot off the bat of Jorge Martinez in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Martinez struck again with his second homer to give the Scrappers the go ahead run in the 10th, and closer James Stokes struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning to send Mahoning Valley home with a series split.

Eric Dorsch took the loss for Jamestown after working an inning and two-thirds before giving way to Andy Otamendi to finish the game. Alex McRae, Nick Neumann, and Montana DuRapau combined to throw eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Anderson, Lunde, Taylor Gushue, Kevin Ross, and Chase Simpson all recorded hits for the Jammers (2-2), who will head to Williamsport for a three-game series against the Crosscutters beginning Tuesday. The Jammers return home on Friday to square off against State College at Russell Diethrick Park.
