Jammers open at home Friday

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.- The Jamestown Jammers open the 2014 New York-Penn League Short-Season Single A season Friday against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Diethrick Park. A four-game series against the Scrappers will run from Friday to Monday.

This year’s Jammers team features a mix of returning players and new faces to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Infielder Michael Fransoso returns to Jamestown after being named a NYPL All-Star in 2013. Also expected to play in the opening series is fourth-round draft pick Taylor Gushue, and sixth-rounder Tyler Eppler. Eppler, a right handed pitcher from Sam Houston State, is scheduled to start Sunday’s game.

Miguel Rosario is the Jammers’ probable opening day starter, facing off against Mahoning Valley’s Sean Brady. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday.
