Mrs. Kathleen “Katie” Haines Gorenflo, age 95 died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Kingston Nursing Center. Mrs. Gorenflo was born in Marion, Ohio on August 28, 1918, the daughter of the late George and Frances Perschal Haines. She was educated in the Ohio public schools, married James F. Gorenflo in 1937 and moved to Warren, Pennsylvania in 1950. Mrs. Gorenflo was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, friend homemaker. She was a lover of animals. When she moved to Conway in 1988 to care for her beloved granddaughter, Kathleen, she became known as “Mimi.” Mrs. Gorenflo attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where her banana bread welcome newcomers was legendary.
Mrs. Gorenflo was predeceased by her husband, James F. Gorenflo, her brother, Homer Haines and her son Fredric Max Gorenflo.
She is survived by her daughter, Kaye Gorenflo Hearn and her husband, George M. Hearn, Jr. both of Conway; two grandsons, Fredric James Gorenflo and Lonnie Edward Gorenflo both of Conway; one granddaughter, Kathleen Wrenn Hearn of Conway; three nieces, Norma J. Nystrom of Murrells Inlet; Dr. Lynn Haines of Marion Ohio; Mariann Main of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandnieces, Jeanne N. Guest (Thomas D. “Val”) and Heather N. Johnson (John), two grandnephews, Eric James Nystrom and Greg Robert Nystrom all of Myrtle Beach and their children. the family is deeply indebted to close friends, Denise McIean and Mike Oyer who visited with “Mimi” regularly and to the wonderful staff at Kingston Nursing Center and Mercy Hospice.
There will be a private memorial service and celebration of life at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Conway. The family will receive friends at 1100 Oak Street in Conway from 6:008:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15.
