Tidioute PD following arson tips
The damage caused during a string of arsons in Tidioute earlier this month is up to six figures.
“We do have a preliminary damage estimate of $101,000,” Tidioute Borough Police Chief Steve Vincent said on Monday.
Six vehicles were totalled as a result of the fires. A seventh was damaged and repaired by the owner.
An eighth vehicle suffered criminal mischief damage to the extent of $1,400.
The concession stand at the ball field, the only structure fire among the arsons, suffered “a couple thousand dollars” worth of damage, according to Vincent.
The investigation continues.
Vincent is following numerous leads in the events of the early morning of Sunday, June 1.
“We’re working a lot of angles of it,” Vincent said Monday. “We’re following everything we get.”
Tips are still coming.
“We’ve gotten a few in from Crime Stoppers,” he said. “We’ve gotten a few by phone.”
“With all the rumors, we have to check every one of them,” he said. And that takes time.
Another thing that takes time is checking on all the forensic evidence collected during the immediate investigation of the arsons. Vincent said forensics experts were on the scene for two days. Evidence is being processed at the state police crime lab in Erie.
“We’re waiting for forensics to get back,” Vincent said. “We’re hoping for the best.”
