Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the former Andy’s Truck Service in Clarendon. List of acceptable items: computers, laptop, monitors, televisions, network devices, Mp3 players, Ipods, CD/DVD/VHS/Blu-ray players, stereos, cell phones, PDAs, answering machines, power supplies, microwaves, wire and cabling.

Townwide Yard Sales

Sheffield area townwide yard sales all day Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8. Maps will be available of all the sales in Sheffield by calling April Huff at 968-5231.

Sheffield Township


The Sheffield Township Supervisors met on Monday, June 2 at the Sheffield Hospitality Center. One guest was present with several issues with her neighbor and was requesting the township pass a clean air ordinance, after much discussion on woodburners and backyard fires it was decided that this would not happen in Sheffield Township.

More garbage issues were addressed as well as several properties that are in violation of the township’s grass ordinance. Violation letters will be sent. The treasurer reported that to date we have received $10,425 in contributions including the $3,500 from the Lions Club Memorial Park fund for summer playground program. The money from the Lions Club will be used to pay for the new mower that has arrived.

Amy Beers has asked the secretary to cook a picnic lunch for the seniors at the concession stand on Tuesday, June 10 the last day of school. The supervisors will also help the secretary in preparing this for the seniors. The class will pay for supplies. Concerns with the trees along the sidewalk on Main Street were addressed and the road crew will take care of cleaning up these trees limbs that hang over the roadway and the signage.

The township is being required to file a Program Specific Audit for the Center Street Bridge project in which we received $625,000 in federal money in order to replace this bridge. It was decided that Haines and Company will complete this audit for us at a cost of around $2,500. A request was received from a citizen to remove the passing zone in front of the Dollar General Store, the speed has been reduced however the passing zone is still present. This will be addressed with PennDOT.

Forestry earnings in the amount of $61,826.48 were received and put into the savings account of the general fund. We budgeted $60,000.

The fire agreement from Howe Township along with its annual payment of $4,400 was received and placed into the Fire Fund. Goodwill has asked us to place one of its blue recycling bins in our township for our citizens which will be emptied twice a week. The supervisors agreed that this would be an added addition to our recycling center and the road crew will see that there is room. Mead Oil Company will be drilling in Cherry Grove Township, Mieka Energy will be drilling in Wetmore Township and Cameron Energy will be drilling in Howe Township.

A door between the showering room and the officials room will be built; this is per a request from the officials during the last track meet. The supervisors will see that this gets done. Resolution No. 420 was adopted, this sets the fees for our weight limit ordinance. Amending garbage ordinance, which increases the penalty for not having garbage pick-up at your residence to $50 a day if found in violation, was accepted and will be advertised and accepted at our next township meeting on June 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheffield Hospitality Center and go in effect that day.

The menu for the week will be: Monday, stuffed green peppers, salad, homemade rolls and peach cobbler. Thursday, hamburgers, spaghetti salad and strawberry shortcake. Friday’s buffet features homemade pizza among other entrees and pudding for dessert. Call 24 hours in advance for your reservation.

A NEXT BMX bike was found underneath the Center Street Bridge. If you are the owner, contact the Sheffield Township Police at 968-5610 to identify it.

Movie Night

at Memorial Park

In cooperation with the WCCBI we are going to have a Movie Night on Friday, June 27 at Sheffield Memorial Park, weather pending, of course.

The movie “Jumanji” will be shown on a giant blow-up screen in the middle of the field. So bring your blankets and comfortable seats or just sit in the grandstands. Popcorn and drinks will be available for a small fee to help support the playground programs in Sheffield Township. It will be like going to the drive-in, except we will be walking in.

Clarendon Playground

The Clarendon Playground program will be run by Stacey Lobdell and will begin on Monday, June 23 and be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Aug. 1. Children from ages 6 to 12 are welcome to sign up for fun-filled summer.

Sheffield Playground

The Sheffield Playground program will begin on Monday, June 16, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the Aug. 15. Lisa O’Donish, Kristie Steffan and Ashley Barr will be preparing a fun summer for the children of Sheffield area. The township thanks all who have financial supported this program, without your help this would be possible.

Wrestlers Car Wash

The Sheffield Wrestlers will be having a car wash today, June 7, at the Sheffield Township Maintenance Garage between the All Pitt Stop (Lanes Citco) and the State Store. Stop down from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
