Community Lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches.

Each month lunch is held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley.

Note that the United Methodist Church and the Mission Covenant Church will be taking a summer break from community lunches during June, July and August.

Flea Market

The Chandlers Valley Community Center, a nonprofit organization at 6250 Jackson Run Rd., will be having a Flea Market every third Saturday of the month through Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Vendors will be set up in the Chandlers Valley ball field. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or you would like more information on the event, you can contact Marlene Falconer at 489-3760.

Hunger Games

The Sugar Grove Library board of directors has announced the postponement of the second Annual Hunger Games due to scheduling conflicts. A new date will be announced once it is decided upon. Contact the Sugar Grove Free Library at sgfreelibrary@gmail.com or 489-7872 with any questions.

Barnyard Classic

Sign up now for the Eisenhower Barnyard Classic Basketball 3 on 3 tournament. The event this year will be happening Saturday, June 28 on 10 permanent outdoor courts. For more information or to register your team, go to www.barnyardclassic.com.

Book Club

The Sugar Grove Library Book Club’s June book is “Winter’s Bone” by Daniel Woodrell. We will meet June 30. Stop at the library and pick up a copy today then join in the Sugar Grove Book Club.

WCSD Schedule

Reminder the last day of classes for the Warren County School District will be Tuesday, June 10. This will be a full day of school.

Sportsmen’s Challenge

The Chandlers Valley Community Center is looking for vendors for the upcoming fall Sportsmen’s Challenge. The challenge will take place on Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will include the people pull, judged pie baking contest, pie auction, judged photo contest, children’s games and events, a Chinese auction, lawn mower obstacle course, corn hole tournament, sportsmen’s challenge, pre-1965 farm tractor cruise in, craft vendors, food vendors, flea market, and more.

Pavilion and Bake Sale

The Mission Covenant Luncheon Ladies are having a sale of clean and gently used items. Our purpose is to earn monies for the updating of our church kitchen. The sale is June 6 and 7 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. in the church pavilion. The monetary goal is $2,000.

Support us by donating items to the sale or coming to shop. We can use clean usual items, small workable appliances, games, puzzles, toys, linens, extra tools, hand tools, and workable power tools. We are also taking donations of baked goods for our bake sale. Follow the signs and come and check us out.

Imaginative Preschool

Graduation

Congratulations to the graduating class of the Imaginative Preschool at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. The students held a graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 29 with songs, videos and diploma presentation for their families to enjoy.

The students in this year’s four-year-old class were: Mason Britt, Caden Caudill, Meredith Cofer, Abbie Darr, Mason Degan, Keaton Destro, Taige Eastman, Joseph Gigliotti, Huntley LaVigne, Bryndalyn Lindell, Jack Martin, Leah Morrison, Madelyn Morrison, Hunter Nuttal, Michael Palmieri, Caden Posker, and Carsen Rhoades.

The three-year-old class students were: Drake Benson, Conner Briggs, Carson Britt, Mataya Destro, Ryan Engquist, Brayden Frank, Kaylee Huffman, Kayden Parker, Parker Shauman, Althea Uber, Norah Weaver, Ethan Weilacher, and Brady White.

Hill & Dale

Garden Club

The Hill & Dale Garden Club will be holding its annual Flower Show and Luncheon on June 11 at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church Educational Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All Garden ladies are encouraged to attend and wear your garden hats. Anyone putting exhibits into the flower show should be on location to register from 10 to 11 a.m. Pre-registration cards can be obtained by contacting Mary Lou VanDorn at 489-3929. Bring your plants and fresh flowers to show along with any design floral arrangements.

All will be judged by Garden Club Federation judges.

During the meeting from 11 a.m. to noon there will be a Brown Bag Auction. Members are urged to bring something to auction off. Lunch will start around noon and all members are asked to bring a dish to share. The flower show will be open to the public from 1 to 2 p.m. for anyone to come and enjoy all the beautiful arrangements and flowers.

Donation of Computers

The Sugar Grove Free Library recently gave computers to the Lander Volunteer Fire Department.

Earlier this year the library received a local donation to upgrade its technical equipment. In response the library has been giving its older, but still useable equipment to the local non-profits like the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department and now the Lander Volunteer Fire Department.

Concert in the Valley

Dan Schall will be in concert on June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church on Jackson Run in Chandlers Valley. Light refreshments will follow the concert.

EHS Class of ’73

The Eisenhower High School Class of 1973 will be getting together at the Bucket Cafe starting at 1 p.m. No need to make reservations, but call Carol or Trudy at 489-7780 or 757-8610 so they can get a head count of the number of alumni that will be attending.

EMHS Class of 2014

The Eisenhower Middle Senior High School will hold their Baccalaureate service on Sunday, June 8 at Eisenhower High School. The EMHS Senior Awards and Scholarship program will be held on June 6. EMHS Graduation for the Class of 2014 will be held Friday, June 13.
