Unsafe car seats replaced

A cooperative effort between the City of Warren, Conewango Township Police, the American Automobile Association and Tim Hortons is helping to insure the safety of area children riding in vehicles.

Terri Rae Anthony of AAA said a grant allowed the police agencies to purchase child safety seats to replace unsafe ones.

Sgt. Brandon Deppen of the City of Warren Police Department explained that the child seat check on Wednesday was to determine if seats were outdated, expired and unsafe, and get them off the streets. A number of old seats were collected and replaced with new ones.

Anthony noted the interior of vehicles is hard on the seats over time, and that many drivers didn’t know that the car seats could be unsafe.

The safety check was hosted by Tim Hortons, and drivers participating also received a certificate for a ten pack of Timbits. Jay MacDonald of Tim Hortons said the event had also raised $2,500 for the restaurant’s Children’s Foundation.
