George R. Koestner, 67, formerly of Corry, died on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Ohio Veteran’s Home, Sandusky, OH., where he had been a resident.
He was born on No-vember 17, 1946, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late George J. and Thelma M. Henry Koestner.
George was raised and educated in Corry and gra-duated from Corry Area High School in 1964.
Following high school, he served with the U. S. Army from May 1966 to May 1968. George was a combat veteran during the Vietnam War, and was awarded a Purple Heart, and was the first Corry soldier to have won the Bronze Star Medal for action in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he re-turned to Corry and worked as a courier for Purolator (Conway) for over 20 years. He then worked for many years as an insurance sales-man for the Combined In-surance Company in War-ren, Pa. George moved to his sister’s home in Lorain, OH., in 2008.
He enjoyed playing soft-ball with his friends for the Swart Builder’s team for many years. He also liked to go fishing and camping.
In addition to his parents, George was preced-ed in death by a son, Bran-don R. Koestner.
George is survived by a daughter, Shonda L. Koestner DesJardin of Westminster, CO.; a sister Mary Kathleen Lewis of Lorain, OH.; two nieces, Tammy Lewis and Tonya Ohle and her husband Dale; and a nephew, Tim Lewis and his wife Sharon. He is also survived by three great nieces and one great nephew.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Brack-en Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm., with a Parish Scripture Service at 4:45 pm. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 am fol-lowed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Ro-man Catholic Church, 203 W. Washington St., Corry, Pa., at 10 am. Rev. Mark Hoffman will officiate.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
