Sheffield’s Adam Higby ties for 13th at PIAA’s
SHIPPENSBURG – Sheffield junior Adam Higby was the last man standing, from Warren County anyway, at this weekend’s PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
If anything, he proved he belonged by tying for 13th place in the high jump on Saturday afternoon at Seth Grove Stadium with not his best jump. His best is yet to come, if judging by the fact he nicked the bar twice in an attempt to get 6-feet, two inches, which he jumped at the Warren County Track Meet earlier this month at War Memorial Field.
On this day, Higby tied for 13th with a six-foot jump. Junior Chris Stone of Springfield won the Class AA state title with a 6-7 jump. Six-feet-two would have tied Higby for ninth. The top eight earn medals at states.
Higby qualified with a 5-10 jump at the District 9 Class AA Championships in Brookville, finishing second. The top two qualify for states from D9.
Four Warren Dragons competed on Friday in the Class AAA 110 hurdles (Ryan Shattuck), 400 (Tanner Rosenberg), 300 hurdles (Luke Wortman), and the 4×400 team of Kyle Kulka, Shattuck, Wortman and Rosenberg. Higby was the only Warren County representative from Class AA.
