Geraldine C. Mitchell Stoddard, 88, of College St., Youngsville, Pa., died on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Rouse Home.
She was born on August 31, 1925, in Corry, Pa., a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Belle Mattice Dunton.
Geraldine was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry High School in 1942. She then worked for Aero Supply during WWII. In 1955, she worked for Corry Area Junior High School as a secretary for 5 years. In 1969, Geraldine worked for McInnes Steel as a secretary. She worked there until her retirement in 1986. In 1996, she moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., and lived there until returning to Pennsylvania in 2005.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary in Sugar Grove. Geraldine enjoyed the outdoors, music, bowling, camping in the summer and working on the Mitchell family farm.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death in October 1986 by her first husband, Harold Mitchell, and in July of 2007, by her second husband Allen Stoddard. She was also preceded by a son, Dale Brenoel; a step soninlaw, Ray Diehl; and three sisters, Irene Perkins, Emma Huff and Laretta Hazeltine.
Geraldine is survived by four stepdaughters, Marie Petko and her husband Paul of Corry, Pa., Kathleen Confer and her husband Alva of Buckeye, Az., Deborah Salapek and her husband Joe of Warren, Pa., and Marjorie Diehl of West Spring Creek, Pa.; and three stepsons, Michael Mitchell and his wife Deborah of Oil City, Pa., David Mitchell and his wife Patricia of Scituate, Mass., and Jimmy Stoddard and his wife Traci of Pittsfield, Pa. She is also survived by many step grandchildren, step greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm., and attend the funeral service there on Thursday at 11 am. Rev. Brian Eiss will officiate.
Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Pa.
