Saying Goodbye

Friday night at Sugar Grove Elementary School was a time to celebrate the present and to say goodbye to a school that has served the community for over 50 years.

With construction of an elementary addition at the Eisenhower complex nearing completion, students at Sugar Grove Elementary School will move to Eisenhower K-12 next year while Sugar Grove will close.

Community members, former teachers and staff joined current families and students at the open house.

The library featured a historical display, highlighted with previous yearbooks from Sugar Grove and Eisenhower that dated back to the late 1950s.

Principal Marcia Madigan, who has been at the school for nine years, said that some families have four generations of students who have attended Sugar Grove.

“The community has been wonderful,” she said.

Parents and students from the Russell Elementary community were also invited to the open house as the two communities will be merged at the elementary level next year.

A poster board prepared for the open house explained the reason for the meeting best “This open house is held in recognition of all those who serve here now and have served from the time the building was opened for learning.”
