Golf results

The team of Ron Lemon and Dan Lemon finished first on Monday in the Cable Hollow Monday Scratch League with a low gross of 33.

The Lemons have 22.5 points and the team of Greg Senyo and Chuck Hazeltine 18 points for the season.

The team of Mike Hultquist and Jeff White shot the low round of one-under 35 this week in the Peterson-Blick Scratch League at Blueberry Hill. The team of Tony Tridico and Scott Reynolds was second at 36 and four teams tied for third at 37.

Hallie Dubia had the nine-hole low gross of 40, and Michelle Lauffenburger the nine-hole low net of 35, on Wednesday in the CVCC Ladies Golf League.

Dave Dibble and Pete Hofert each shot a 41 to tie for low gross Tuesday in the Youngsville Area Senior Golf League. Harold Miles, Bob Bires and Bob Johnson each shot a low net of 36. Dibble, Miles and Jack Abplanalp had birdies.

College news

A three-time All-Academic and captain at Division I Vanderbilt University, Carey Spear, who set a single-season record as a senior in 2013 with 99 points while connecting on 15 of his 19 field goal attempts, has singed as a free agent kicker with the Philademphia Eagles.

Spear, with ties to Warren, was second-team All-SEC as a junior as he led the conference in field goal percentage (83.3 percent, 20-of-24). His 20 field goals that year were the most in a single season at Vanderbilt.

The 22-year-old attended Mayfield (Ohio) High School, where he was a two-time all-state kicker, He’s the son of Tom (WAHS alumni) and Teresa Spear and gradson of Mamie Spear and the late Nicolas Spear of Warren.

Rifleman

Russell’s Randy Ent won the Modern Military event last week at the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) Eastern Games at Camp Butner, North Carolina. Camp Butner is a National Guard range.

Modern Military was the first rifle event Ent fired and his scores held up over the four-day event. He shot a Springfield M1A to win the category, finishing with a 288-8 aggregate score to top 89 other riflemen.

Ent was 39th in the J.C. Garand M1 class; sixth in Springfield Match; 26th in Vintage class, and; fifth in M1 Carbine (but only three points from the top score).

He finished 10th in Three Gun Aggregate, and fourth in Four Gun Aggregate.

Troy Weissinger homered and had two doubles, and Rick Rohlin four hits, in Kwik Fill’s 21-17 Over 30 Modified Softball League win Tuesday over Meredian Hardwoods.

Schedule change

The Iroquois at Warren softball game scheduled for Saturday has been switched to Warren at Iroquois at 11 a.m. Saturday, with junior varsity to follow. Warren will then travel to Penn State Behrend for a 5 p.m. game vs. Saegertown.

The Otto-Eldred at Sheffield softball game scheduled for Wednesday was canceled. The game will not be rescheduled. However, Sheffield will now play at Youngsville at 4 p.m. Friday.

The Seneca at Youngsville baseball game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed and tentatively rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at David Street Field in Youngsville.
