Postseason set to begin for Warren track teams
There have been school and meet records broken, but now’s the time for the District 10 Class AAA Championships Wednesday at Harbor Creek High School.
Warren’s two-time District 10 champion 4X400 relay team returns and is a second seed. Kyle Kulka, Luke Wortman, Ryan Shattuck and Tanner Rosenberg are seeded less than a second behind Slippery Rock among 11 teams. This group also makes up several high seeds for Warren’s boys track team.
Luke Wortman has been to states, and he’s seeded first in the 300 hurdles in 41.24 seconds, just ahead of Shattuck’s 42.04. Shattuck is also second in the 110 hurdles in 15.76 seconds.
Tanner Rosenberg is seeded second in the 400 in at 50.54, behind Slippery Rock’s Shane Kirtwood, who is at 50.24. Wortman is seeded fourth at 51.68 seconds.
Only the District 10 champions and those who hit state-qualifying marks advance to states. And this is Warren’s best shot among this group.
Kulka is also seeded third in the long jump, out of 17, and he’s already cleared the state-qualifying standard this season.
Among other qualifiers, Kulka is seeded ninth in the 100, and Ryan Gorgacz 15th; Blake Ristau 12th in the 1600 and 13th in 3200; Warren’s 4-by-100 team of Kulka, Anthony Gedz, Dakota Matson and Gorgacz is 5th; Nick Willetts 14th in the 300 hurdles; Rosenberg ninth in the 800; Gorgacz seventh in the long jump, and Devin Nowacki 11th; Nowacki seventh in the triple jump and Gedz 15th, and the 4×800 team of Alec Colosimo, Brandon Nielson, Ristau and Dan Jenkins is seeded seventh.
On the girls’ side, Lindsay Onuffer and Rackel Lasecki are seeded sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles, and Lasecki is 13th in the 300 hurdles; Casey Kulka 12th in the 100; McKenzie Merenick 21st in the 1600; Valerie Latimer ninth in the 400; the 4×100 team of Katlyn Adams, Ashley Barker, Amy Castagnino and Kulka is seeded sixth; Kulka is fifth in the 200, and Adams 12th; the girls’ 4×400 team of Adams, Kulka, Tori Paris and Latimer is ninth; Paris is eighth in the high jump; Barker ninth, Adams 12th and Merenick 18th in the long jump; Merenick and Barker 12th and 13th, respectively, in the triple jump; Nikki Atkins is seeded sixth in the shot, and D.J. Hahn 12th; Claudia Olson fifth in discus, and; Hahn third in the javelin, and Olson ninth, with Hahn less than 10 feet from state-qualifying standard on her top throw of the season.
