Commissioners table appointments to drug task force
At their work session Monday morning, the Warren County Commissioners agreed to table making appointments to the new county drug task force until they had a chance to discuss it with the county fiscal department and the district attorney.
In other business, Commissioner John Eggleston suggested that they should at least get a price on re-doing the parking lot at the courthouse. He added that the commissioners have been temporarily patching it year after year.
He also reported that REMCO Construction has been making progress in repairing and waterproofing the basement in the front of the courthouse. There was severe water damage earlier this year from leaks in the foundation. Eggleston noted that there also will need to be repairs to the exterior of the foundation.
Commissioner John Bortz reported on work being done to the kitchen of the Warren County Jail. “We’re looking into expanding the size of the walk-in cooler,” he said, adding that a larger unit would allow bulk purchases of foods, resulting in substantial savings.
“The kitchen personnel are very pleased with the new air conditioning,” he said.
During the salary board portion of the work session, Commissioner Chairman Stephen Vanco said he had a proposal to hire six part-time corrections officers for the jail, at $12.68 per hour with no benefits. The commissioners agreed to make the hires, along with a new Children and Youth caseworker with a salary of $25,448 plus benefits.
